Course description

This course has lessons and activities to help you learn how to use the WhatsApp app on an Android or iOS smartphone. WhatsApp is a free app that you can use to make private voice and video calls, send text messages and media to your friends, family, and contacts. WhatsApp uses Wi-Fi or your phone’s data plan, instead of call time or texting through your cell phone plan. It can be a cheaper way to stay in touch with people, especially if they live in a different country.

Do you want to read a PDF of this lesson plan? You can download the lesson for Android devices, or download the lesson for iOS devices.

In this course, we’ll learn how to:

  • Download WhatsApp onto your phone
  • Add contacts to your WhatsApp contacts list
  • Make voice and video calls through the app
  • Send text messages and media to your contacts

This course is made possible through a collaboration with Youth Empowering Parents. This project has been partly funded by the Government of Canada through the Digital Literacy Exchange Program. To learn more about the program, please visit the Youth Teaching Adults website.
